A friend found Samman, along with his friend and roommate Troy Kirkingburg, unresponsive last Thursday evening at their Florida apartment. The friend immediately called 911. When authorities arrived on the scene, Samman was still in coma and Kirkingburg, 28, was pronounced dead.
Although there was no sign of foul play at the scene, but police suspected that it might have been drug overdose. However, Samman’s mother issued a statement earlier this week refuting that heroin was found in his system despite online speculations that his condition was the result of drug overdose. Samman remained comatose for several days and was moved to a hospice late Tuesday night.
Samman's manager Gary Ibarra confirmed the passing of the athlete to FOX Sports on Wednesday.
Samman first debuted as part of the UFC roster was when he joined Jon Jones' team on the 17th season of "The Ultimate Fighter". He later went on to win his first three fights in the UFC including back-to-back 'Performance of the Night' victories over Eddie Gordon and Caio Magalhaes. Samman who released a book earlier this year titled “The Housekeeper: Love, Death and Prizefighting,” was scheduled to fight Oluwale Bamgbose on Dec. 9 at UFC Fight Night in Albany."It is with a heavy heart that the family of Joshua Samman, well known professional mixed martial artist, promoter and author have announced his passing this morning at 7:20 a.m. at Regional Memorial Hospital in Hollywood, Florida.
