From 15 to 24 December, The Nutcracker will once again enthrall young and old with the story of Clara's magical experience at her family's Christmas Eve party. With the antics of her mysterious uncle Herr Drosselmeyer and his even more mysterious gift of a nutcracker doll, the fairytale characters of the Rat King, the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Nutcracker Prince are set to transport everyone to a wondrous place.
The very popular annual Fairy Parade will be held on Thursday, 24 December, following the 2pm performance of The Nutcracker. Children - boys and girls - are invited to dress as their favourite fairytale character and parade onto the stage to meet the dancers and receive a little gift from Santa Claus.
The sparkling ballet Night and Day opens with a special gala performance on New Year's Eve, and offers the perfect opportunity to welcome 2016 in scintillating style. The music of legendary American songwriter Cole Porter stood the test of time and with this production the Cape Town City Ballet puts a glamorous spin on his life with a brilliant selection of his most memorable tunes. Audiences will enjoy songs like Let's Misbehave, Too Darn Hot, Every Time We Say Goodbye, and, of course, Night and Day, while classical ballet meets jazz and tap dance in sensational scenes created by top South African choreographers.
Night and Day runs at Artscape until 10 January and then transfers to the picturesque Maynardville Open-Air Theatre from 24 January until 21 February with performances on Sundays only.
Bookings for all productions can be made at Computicket or Artscape Dial-a-Seat on +27 (0)21 421 7695. For more information, go to www.capetowncityballet.org.za
